Hailing from India, designer Amit GT has won many awards and accolades for his exquisite ready to wear and couture creations. With a wide celebrity clientele from Hollywood stars like Rachel Wiesz, Eva Longoria, Rosario Dawson, Carmen Electra, to pop stars like Avril Lavigne, Toni Braxton and Bollywood stars like Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and many more, his designs have been puristic and unpretentious yet elegant and decadent. His silhouettes replete with fluid drapery, scrunching and pleating techniques, innovative couture textures evoke surreal imagery.
At what point did you hit eureka and decide to become a Fashion Designer?
I realized at a very young age that i wanted to be in the design space eventually. My fascination towards different textiles and colors made me more inclined to becoming a fashion designer at some point. It intrigued me the most to see how a silhouette could transform someone’s look completely.
Where do you get your daily inspiration from, what inspires you?
Music to the ears inspires me the most.
What is and how important is your brand identity/USP, at a time where competition is at its peak?
It is important that the designer is known for certain aesthetic and caters to a certain market and occasion. This plays an important role in creating your brand identity. If your clients do not know what you are known for they will not know what to buy from you.
What advise can you give in terms of funding your business to aspiring designer?
This business requires immense funding, any amount you have may fall short so it is advisable to think through from the point of inception that this is where your passion truly lies.
What was/is your biggest struggle as a fashion business?
My biggest struggle as a fashion business is to constantly churn out new designs and put together 3 collections for my 3 sub brands. I think this struggle will not stop for me or for anyone who is in this business. At the same time it is also something I look forward to, which makes it challenging in a positive way.
